If you’re looking for a special wedding venue, are planning a business event, or want somewhere to relax and enjoy a quality coffee, then The Arcadia in Portrush is the perfect choice.
Located on Northern Ireland’s stunning coastline, The Arcadia is Portrush’s most iconic building, both architecturally and historically. Once a famous local ballroom, the venue is still as popular as it ever was, with both the local community and visitors to the area. With the Atlantic Ocean almost completely surrounding the building, you can subsequently enjoy breath-taking views of the beautiful seascape and nearby East Strand beach all year round. Relax and unwind with the soothing soundtrack of the sea and enjoy all The Arcadia has to offer.
Managed since 2010 by Portrush native, Tanya Gillen, The Arcadia offers a unique space for hosting weddings, as well as corporate and social events. Meanwhile, our spacious open-plan studio on the first-floor regularly features local artwork and hosts everything from yoga classes to corporate networking events.
Renowned for serving delicious local produce, our recently renovated café also provides the perfect meeting place for families and friends, with a children’s play park and paddling pools just outside the door. The popular Ladies’ Beach is also conveniently located beside The Arcadia on the opposite side, with a clean sandy space for enjoying the water. Whether it’s welcoming the Portrush Parkrun group on a Saturday morning, The Arcadia Bathing Club on a Sunday, or any other customer, we extend a warm welcome to all.
Excellent customer service
Offering free quotes for all wedding and event hire queries, The Arcadia is a locally operated family-run business fuelled by a desire to provide a shared community space everyone can use. With this in mind, we offer free admission to our upstairs Art Gallery, accessible via an indoor lift or by the stairs. We also run regular classes within this space, including yoga, Pilates and art classes, and tailor all hosted events to meet the exact specifications of individual clients.
With friendly and efficient service guaranteed, The Arcadia is the perfect retreat for every occasion. Car parking is also just a few minutes’ walk away at the East Strand and we’re fully wheelchair accessible, with our inside lift offering easy entry to the first-floor.
Built in the 1920s by local businessman, RA Chalmers, The Arcadia, originally designed as a café, opened its ballroom in 1953, subsequently becoming a successful entertainment venue. Frequented by musicians such as The Dave Glover Band, The Arcadia also hosted The Stranglers, The Undertones, Stiff Little Fingers, Ian Dury and The Blockheads over the years.
Although The Arcadia later risked being demolished, Portrush residents rallied round this iconic landmark, with the result that it was restored in the early 2000s. While the original part of the 1920s building still remains, the former ballroom has since been transformed into a children’s play area, complete with paddling pools and sand.
